New York, NY – Pianist and composer Conrad Tao will have a pair of performances in New York City this fall. The first will take place on October 30 at Roulette in Brooklyn, with the premiere of a new work entitled Ceremony, developed in collaboration with improviser and vocalist Charmaine Lee. Forgoing the piano entirely, Conrad will perform on electronics, using spatialization, live signal processing, and fixed media to explore a variety of sonic environments — each a meditation on the visceral tactility of vocal and electronic sound. Ceremony is a celebration of hybridity, weaving together diverse influences from ASMR, drone, ambient, and the 80s power ballad.

Following that, Conrad will make his Lincoln Center debut on December 3 with a program that fuses Baroque, Romantic and Contemporary music. The mood is set with J.S. Bach’s virtuosic and improvisational Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue, which paves the way for Jason Eckardt’s richly dissonant Echoes’ White Veil, Rachmaninoff’s hauntingly beautiful Etude-Tableau in A minor, Op. 39 No. 2, and Beethoven’s tragic yet euphoric Piano Sonata in A-flat Major, Op. 110.
